Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 bag (about 30 ounces) frozen tater tots
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder into the beef and onion mixture until combined.
Spread the meat mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the meat layer.
Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer over the cheese.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the tater tots are golden brown and crisp.
Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before you serve it.
Notes
For a richer flavor, substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken soup.
You can prepare the meat mixture and assemble the casserole the day before. Cover and refrigerate, then add 10 minutes to the total bake time if baking straight from the refrigerator.
If you prefer a spicier dish, add 1/4 teaspoon of dried mustard powder to the meat mixture.
