Ingredients
Scale
1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup water
Instructions
Cook the bacon pieces in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet with the bacon grease. Sauté for 5 to 7 minutes until the beans are tender-crisp.
In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, and garlic powder.
Pour the sauce mixture over the green beans in the skillet. Add the water.
Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens and coats the beans, about 3 to 5 minutes.
Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the reserved crispy bacon pieces.
Serve immediately as your best green bean side dish.
Notes
For an extra savory flavor, substitute 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar with 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese added at the end.
If you prefer a crispier texture, roast the beans at 400°F for 15 minutes before tossing them with the cooked sauce.
This recipe works well with frozen green beans if you thaw and pat them dry first.
