Make this sweet-tart Christmas jam using your slow cooker. This recipe combines cranberries and strawberries with warm holiday spices, creating a perfect homemade preserve for gifting or serving during holiday meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed is best)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 packet (1.75 oz) powdered fruit pectin

Instructions

  1. Combine the cranberries, strawberries, granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and cloves in the basin of a 4-quart or larger slow cooker. Do not add pectin yet.
  2. Stir the ingredients gently until they are well mixed.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or on high for 2 to 3 hours. Stir every hour. The fruit should break down completely.
  4. Once the fruit is soft, stir in the powdered fruit pectin until it is fully dissolved.
  5. Continue cooking on high, uncovered, for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly.
  6. Remove the slow cooker basin from the heat. Skim off any foam that has formed on the surface.
  7. Ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims clean.
  8. Process the jars using your preferred canning method (water bath canning is recommended for shelf stability) according to standard home canning guidelines for long-term storage. If you plan to refrigerate or freeze, simply let the jars cool, seal, and store.

Notes

  • For a smoother jam, you can use an immersion blender briefly after the fruit breaks down, before adding the pectin.
  • This jam makes an excellent Christmas Gift in a Jar when tied with a festive ribbon.
  • If you prefer a less tart flavor, increase the brown sugar by 1/4 cup.
  • For the best results when canning, follow tested recipes from reliable sources for processing times.
